IN JUST A FEW YEARS WE HAVE SEEN COUNTLESS WORKS OF ART STRIPPED OF ALL HUMAN INTENTIONALITY, FORCING ONLOOKERS TO DECODE ENTIRELY FOR THEMSELVES WHAT THEY MEAN. IT IS ALSO MAKING EVERYTHING REALLY WEIRD AT AN UNSUSTAINABLE PACE, WHICH IS GOOD. SOON THERE WILL BE LOTS OF NEW RELIGIONS TO CHOOSE FROM.

While researching this article, we were able to have two listens through 'None of This is Real' (2014). The concept is brilliant, with both listens being entirely different experiences. How did the album come to be?

(BACKGROUND)

“This album was recovered from a series of dusty, unmarked Zip disks found in a condemned Massachusetts apartment building in 2001. It is believed to be the first fantasy audio hip-hop roguelike tape to be published on Bandcamp. Each track is a vignette ranging from 12 seconds to 3 minutes.”

The album is intended to be shuffled, making each playthrough a unique experience of listening to the album.

It started because I was not very confident in my ability to sequence a good tracklist. I discovered this old autechre album (under the alias gescom) that was for minidisc only, which used the gapless playback technology to allow for the illusion of one big long seamless shuffling song. I was also very interested in 80s-era roguelikes at the time. also, I thought wizards and fantasy and D&D were kind of a funny concept.
